Steel steam traps from Ukrainian manufacturer UKSPAR

A steam trap removes excess condensate from the pipeline system. The scope of fittings is sensitive lines with cold and hot steam. Condensation interferes with the normal operation of the pipeline, reduces its efficiency and often causes water hammer. Steam traps help to reduce steam consumption and extend the life of the line without breakdowns. The efficiency of the system increases by an average of 20-25%. The installation location of the fittings is on the pipe immediately after the heating elements and heaters.

How a steam trap works

The valve separates the steam from the non-condensable working stream in different ways, depending on the type of product. Excess moisture is removed when there is no free space left inside the system, after which it is discharged outside through a hole in the case. Inside the structure there is a shutter that opens and closes automatically. Condensate is discharged intermittently or continuously, depending on the system.

What are steam traps

There are three main groups:

  • thermodynamic;
  • thermostatic;
  • float.

  • Thermodynamic Steam Traps

    Thermodynamic products work using the energy generated when the condensate is brought to a boiling state. The design of the fittings provides a disk that rotates and closes or slightly opens the outlet. The heated condensate, which moves at low speed, opens the disk and flows out, after which the pressure in the system drops. The steam accumulated from above, on the contrary, moves quickly, and lowers the shutter into the saddle until the next cycle.

    Thermodynamic steam traps are compact, lightweight, highly efficient and easy to maintain. They are not afraid of rust, freezing, vibration response and water hammer. Such products are relevant for highways with hot steam, which flows under high pressure.

    Thermostatic Steam Traps

    Thermostatic products work due to the difference in the temperature regime of the working environment and the accumulated moisture. The working element is a capsule that forms or closes the through hole in the system by acting on the clamping element. Under normal operating parameters, the steam moves freely in the system. If condensate accumulates inside, the filler in the capsule heats up, after which the protective membrane expands, the outlet channel opens and excess liquid is removed from the line.

    Thermostatic products are characterized by inertia (they cool the condensate before ejection), good performance, resistance to freezing, and ease of maintenance. They are suitable for systems in which not only condensate is to be removed, but also excess air and foreign gases.

    Float Traps

    Float products work due to the difference in the density of the working medium and condensate. The built-in float rises when the water level rises, and falls when it is ejected. Such products operate continuously and remove excess liquid, the temperature of which is equal to the temperature of the steam. Fittings are suitable for systems with a large working area and with increased formation of condensate.
