The exact compliance of such shut-off valves with the operating characteristics of the environment inside the engineering network prevents the occurrence of water hammer and leaks. When planning <a href=\"https:\/\/ukspar.ua\/en\/zasuvky\/\">choose a latch<\/a>, it is important to pay attention to the material of the seals, the type of drive, the intensity of the opening-closing cycles during the operation of industrial systems. A detailed analysis of all these technical criteria is given below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key parameters for selecting a pipeline valve<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Any pipeline valve must be accompanied by technical documentation (specification) with a comprehensive description of the characteristics from the manufacturer. Among the key parameters in the specification, it is worth noting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>nominal diameter (DN) value - indicates the size of the passage cross-section of the fittings, this indicator must be identical to the internal diameter of the engineering network pipe;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the nominal pressure value (PN) is the maximum allowable pressure inside the pipeline at a temperature of +20\u00b0C; with increasing temperature, the maximum nominal pressure decreases in accordance with the tables of the EN 1092 or ANSI B16.34 standard;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>type of working medium (liquid, gas, steam, etc.) - this parameter determines the suitability of the shut-off unit to work with media of a certain viscosity, aggressiveness, and other physicochemical properties;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the tightness class of the valve - must be given in accordance with EN 12266;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>installation method - interflange, flange, welding, threaded (coupling), etc.;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>drive type - handwheel, gearbox or electric drive;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>environmental conditions - limit values for humidity, dustiness, and temperature must be specified.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also worth mentioning the operational life of the devices. Provided that the selection is technically correct, this figure is usually 15\u201325 years. However, if you purchase a valve without taking into account the parameters of the pipeline, its actual service life can be reduced by 5 or even more times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>Selection of a valve for specific operating conditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The correct valve selection begins with a detailed analysis of the pipeline operating conditions (capacity, technical characteristics of the environment inside the system, etc.). Each of the parameters determines the dimensions and design of the valve required for each specific case, the body material, and the type of seal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>How to choose a valve by working pressure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Such shut-off valves are conventionally divided into three groups: high, medium and low pressure. A high-pressure valve is used in systems with a load of 63 bar or PN 63 and above (high-pressure gas pipelines, power units of CHP and NPP, etc.). Usually these are valves with a cast body. Casting technology allows you to create smooth transitions in thickness and strengthen the necessary zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medium pressure models are installed in systems with PN from 16 to 63. They are used on industrial and urban mains. Low pressure valve (up to 16 bar) is suitable for municipal engineering networks, heating and water supply systems. Medium and low pressure fittings mostly have a welded body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nominal pressure class must correspond to the maximum possible operational value, including water hammer. For pipelines with high dynamics, the load margin is taken to be at least 20\u201325%. This prevents damage to the shut-off element and seals during pressure drops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>Selection of the valve by temperature regime<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In heating networks and boiler rooms, a high-temperature gate valve is used, which is capable of operating in conditions from +200\u00b0 C to +600\u00b0 C. The heat resistance of the body and seals is a critical indicator here. If the maximum permissible temperature is exceeded, the gate valve is deformed and the tightness is lost. Typically, heat-resistant fittings, such as a hot water gate valve or a steam gate valve, are made of cast iron (VCh50), as well as carbon (20GL) or alloy (12X1MF) steel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For low-temperature pipelines (drug storage warehouses, cooling systems in ice arenas, etc.), frost-resistant steels and special elastomers are used. Such materials do not lose their elasticity even at -60\u00b0 C and below. The temperature regime of the valve is necessarily indicated in the product passport and must have a margin of 15\u201320\u00b0 C relative to the calculated value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>How to choose a valve according to the type of working environment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The selected industrial valve must be fully compatible with the physicochemical properties of the transported flow. This includes aggressiveness, viscosity, impurity content, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, a water valve must first and foremost provide an extremely high sealing density due to the low viscosity of the medium. This is achieved by using elastic seals (e.g. made of EPDM or NBR rubber) that fill the smallest irregularities of the seat under pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A gas valve must meet the requirements of class A tightness according to EN 12266 and withstand prolonged exposure to high pressure. To ensure maximum reliability, the bodies of such valves are made of cold-resistant steel or malleable cast iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A gate valve for aggressive media should be made of AISI 316L stainless steel or duplex alloys. Additionally, such valves are treated with special protective coatings. The reason is that, for example, aggressive media with a pH below 5 or above 9 destroy conventional materials within the first year of operation. Abrasive suspensions and slurries in conditions of intensive flow also require a protected stem and a hard coating of the gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>The most common types of latches<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The wedge gate valve is the most common design in industrial piping. It shuts off flow by means of a wedge-shaped gate that enters the seat at an angle. It is used for liquids, gases and steam over a wide range of pressures and temperatures, and performs well under dynamic loads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gate valve is characterized by minimal hydraulic resistance in the open position. This type of valve is mainly used in systems with viscous or contaminated media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The parallel gate valve (with two parallel gate discs) is effective in working with abrasive media. Due to the discs&#039; ability to self-center, the load on the seal is distributed evenly, which prevents its premature wear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>Common mistakes when choosing valves and how to avoid them<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most common problem is the incompatibility of the sealing material of the purchased valve with the physical and chemical characteristics of the environment. For example, if it is a valve for oil, the use of standard EPDM elastomer is unacceptable. Under the influence of lubricants, this material swells and loses its shape. Keep in mind that NBR is more resistant to the aggressive effects of oils and gasoline, and Viton (FKM) is better suited to aggressive chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it is a valve for chemical media with extremely low or high temperatures, it is worth choosing PTFE seals. This material is resistant to aggressive influences with a wide pH range and withstands temperature drops from -200\u00b0 C to +200\u00b0 C (sometimes up to +260\u00b0 C).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, often the shut-off valve is selected according to the external diameter of the pipe instead of the internal, nominal (DN). Remember that DN (nominal diameter) determines the passage cross-section. The device must match the internal diameter of the pipeline to ensure the calculated throughput and avoid turbulence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, sometimes this type of valve is purchased to regulate the flow in the pipeline. It is worth understanding that constant operation in a half-open state significantly accelerates the wear of the elastic seal and can lead to vibration and cavitation processes, which quickly wear out the mechanism as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a>Checklist for selecting a latch for specific tasks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, it is necessary to clearly determine the type of transported substance (liquid, gas, suspension, etc.), determine its physical and mechanical properties (chemical, neutral, corrosive environment, or other). Next, you need to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Record the normal and peak pressure in the pipeline, taking into account possible water hammer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set the maximum and operating temperature of the medium in the main.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check that the nominal DN and PN values of the equipment comply with the main parameters and EN or ANSI standards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose a suitable type of reinforcement design.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the housing material and seal according to the type of medium.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agree on the method of controlling the locking unit (handwheel, gearbox or electric drive).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, it is important to choose valves from proven manufacturers, such as Ukspar.
