The first protective barrier is a mud filter, selected according to the system parameters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mud filter: what is it for and how does it work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The mud separator mechanically separates solid impurities from water or coolant. It is installed in front of the meter, pump, boiler, heat exchanger or fittings. Inside the housing are located:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>net;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>basket;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sedimentation tank or separation element;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in magnetic models - a permanent magnet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This device is often called a \u00abcoarse filter.\u00bb It does not disinfect water, remove dissolved salts, or replace water treatment. Scale is formed primarily due to water hardness, not due to the absence of a mesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How it works: how a mesh traps impurities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Water passes through a metal mesh. Particles larger than the mesh remain on it and accumulate at the bottom of the housing. The arrow on the housing should match the direction of flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manufacturers indicate the size of the holes in millimeters, micrometers or through the mesh number. Comparing models only by the words &quot;rough cleaning&quot; is incorrect: two seemingly similar filters can retain particles of different sizes. The area of the mesh is also important - a larger element accumulates more dirt to a noticeable increase in hydraulic resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The smaller the cells, the smaller the impurities retained by the coarse water filter. However, a dense mesh clogs faster and increases pressure losses. It is selected based on the requirements of the equipment, and not on the principle of &quot;the smaller, the better.&quot;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the expanded settling chamber, the water velocity is reduced, so heavy particles settle out. The separation element also helps to separate fine sludge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of mud filters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are straight, oblique, settling, magnetic and flushing models. One product can combine a grid, a sludge chamber, a magnet and a drain valve, so its capabilities are checked by passport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Straight and oblique (Y-shaped) filter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a straight filter, the main channel coincides with the axis of the pipe, and the screen or chamber is moved to the side. For maintenance, a place is required to open the cover and remove the element.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Y-shaped filter has a slanted branch with a mesh and a plug. On a horizontal pipe, the sump is usually directed downwards to prevent sediment from returning to the flow. Check the instructions for the possibility of vertical installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Magnetic muddler<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ferromagnetic particles, such as magnetite, are produced in the heating circuit due to corrosion. The magnetic mud attracts them and protects the pump, valves and boiler heat exchanger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In catalogs it is also called a sludge trap. The enlarged chamber can also collect non-magnetic particles, but the magnet is no substitute for protection against large assembly debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The efficiency of the magnetic part depends on the strength and location of the magnets, the speed of the coolant and the design of the chamber. Therefore, the presence of the word &quot;magnetic&quot; in the name does not yet allow to estimate the throughput of the device. It is necessary to check the permissible flow rate, pressure losses and the method of removing the collected magnetite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Backwash (self-cleaning) filter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The backwash filter has a drain valve through which the flow washes away impurities into the sewer or drain funnel. In models with backwash, the water cleans the mesh against the working flow. It is not necessary to disassemble the housing for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00abSelf-cleaning\u00bb does not always mean automatic. In simple models, the flush valve is opened manually, while automatic ones are equipped with a timer, actuator or pressure differential controller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mud pump for water supply or for heating: what&#039;s the difference?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For drinking water, the sanitary suitability of the materials, corrosion resistance and permissible temperature are important. In heating, the housing, gaskets and mesh must withstand the parameters of the coolant and contact with glycol, if used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sludge and corrosion products accumulate in the heating system, so a magnetic separator is useful. Sand, scale and rust predominate in the water supply system. These tasks require different <a href=\"https:\/\/ukspar.ua\/en\/filtry-osadovi\/\">coarse filters<\/a>, even with the same diameter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The characteristics of automotive products, which are designated in catalogs as \u00abcoarse and fine fuel filters\u00bb, should not be transferred here. They are intended for a different environment, pressure, and equipment and cannot be used in water supply or heating systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where is the mud filter installed in the system?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The filter is mounted upstream of the protected component, leaving access to the plug, magnet and drain. The arrow should coincide with the flow. Shut-off valves before and after the mud filter simplify service, if the circuit allows it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In front of the water meter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A mesh filter in front of the water meter protects its mechanism from particles from the network. The exact order of elements, straight sections and positions are determined by the meter documentation and the requirements of the water supplier. It is impossible to change a sealed unit without permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plug must remain accessible. On a horizontal pipe, it is usually not directed upwards, otherwise sediment can return to the pipeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before the pump or boiler<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The filter in front of the pump protects the impeller, but should not create excessive suction resistance. The capacity is matched to the pump requirements: a clogged screen reduces the flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In heating, the mud filter is usually placed on the return line before the boiler, and the magnetic separator is also placed before the circulation pump. Some housings work only vertically, others have a swivel connection, so the installation is determined by the instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Body materials: brass, cast iron, stainless steel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brass is common in small diameter threaded filters. It is compact and resistant to corrosion. For drinking water, certification and alloy composition are checked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cast iron is used in large flanged mud tanks. It is strong and economical, but requires protection against corrosion. Stainless steel is suitable for active media and increased sanitary requirements. The materials of the screen, plug and gasket are also important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to choose a mud filter by diameter and pressure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Determine the pipe diameter, thread type or flange size and class. The nominal pressure PN and allowable temperature must match the system parameters. Take into account the peak flow, throughput and pressure loss on a clean filter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A larger connection size does not always mean better performance. If you narrow the passage with adapters or install a model with a low flow rate, the pressure after the filter will decrease. For hot water and heating, the dependence of the permissible pressure on temperature and the compatibility of the seals with the coolant are also checked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mesh size is selected according to the requirements of the protected equipment. An excessively fine mesh quickly clogs. In large systems, pressure gauges before and after the mud pump show an increase in the differential pressure due to clogging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maintenance: when and how to flush<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no single cleaning period. After the pipeline is launched, inspections are carried out more frequently. In the future, they are guided by the pressure drop, flow rate reduction, amount of sediment and the manufacturer&#039;s recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first signs of blockage may be:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>pressure drop;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>pump noise;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>poor circulation or unstable equipment operation.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, you shouldn&#039;t wait for these symptoms: in responsible systems, the condition of the filter is checked regularly. If the mesh is deformed, torn, or covered with corrosion, it is replaced, and not tried to be reused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before disassembly, the flow is shut off, the coolant is cooled, and the pressure is completely relieved. Then the plug is removed, the mesh is washed, and the mesh and gasket are checked. After assembly, the water is gradually turned on and the tightness is checked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the flushing model, the dirt is removed through the drain. In the magnetic sludge trap, the magnet is first removed and then the drain is opened.
