The material of the housing, screen and gasket must be compatible with water, gas, steam or process fluid. For gaseous media, a design expressly approved by the manufacturer is required. The particles are retained in the pocket, while the cleaned medium continues on. A cover provides access to the element; some designs have a purge or drain connection. As dirt accumulates, the pressure drop increases. Manufacturers recommend regular cleaning or purging of the screen, as a blocked mesh increases resistance.\r\n<h3>Mesh and filtration degree<\/h3>\r\nThe degree of filtration is determined by the size of the perforation or the number of cells, but these designations should not be mixed without a table. A larger free area of the mesh increases throughput and reduces the net pressure drop. A smaller element retains particles better, but requires more frequent service. A flanged mesh filter is a means of mechanical pre-cleaning, and not automatically a fine cleaning system. If a guaranteed fineness is required, it is specified in microns and confirmed by a passport.\r\n<h2>Housing materials: cast iron, steel, stainless steel<\/h2>\r\nThe body is made of the following materials:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Cast iron is economical for water and heating networks within the specified parameters, but is more sensitive to impacts.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Steel is used for higher loads and special environments.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Stainless steel is suitable for corrosive or hygienic processes if the selected grade is compatible with the environment.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThe mesh is often made of stainless steel even in a cast iron housing, but this should be checked against the specification. The materials of the gasket and cover are equally important.
