How to choose an electric drive for operating conditions

The electric actuator is selected not only by diameter. The main parameter is the torque required to rotate the ball at the maximum pressure drop. The actuator must have sufficient margin, without exceeding the permissible load on the rod.
Also take into account the voltage, operating time, cycle frequency, temperature and installation location. For the controlled process, the type of signal and the need for feedback are determined. The actuator and valve are selected as a single set.
For damp rooms, open areas or special areas, the enclosure protection is checked. The standard version is not used where an explosion-proof actuator is required.

Types of cranes by connection method

The coupling valve is mounted on a thread and is convenient for pipelines of small DN. The category includes stainless steel models for 24 and 220 V and PN16 version. Brass is also used in threaded fittings, but the material of a particular valve must be checked with the card.
The flanged valve is bolted and facilitates the dismantling of the valve. The catalog includes PN16 and PN25 kits. The welded version forms a permanent connection and reduces the number of joints. The type of connection is selected based on the project, pipe material and service conditions.
The three-way L/T-shaped valve switches or distributes the flow. The hole pattern in the ball and the operating positions are agreed upon before ordering.

Functions and capabilities of the electric drive

The actuator transmits torque to the stem via a gearbox and rotates the ball 90° between the open and closed positions. Two-position or proportional control is possible. For individual actuators, the catalog provides signals of 4–20 mA, 0–10 mA or 1–5 V, but the function must be confirmed during configuration.
Automatic control sets the operating algorithm and provides control from the operator's station. Thermal protection, tripping time and connection diagram are also checked.

Manual override, limit switches, IP protection rating

Manual override allows the valve to be changed without power, if the actuator allows it. Limit switches stop the motor in the extreme positions and transmit a signal about the valve status. They are set during installation.
The IP rating describes the protection of the housing against dust and water. The catalogue lists actuators with IP66 and IP67, but these values cannot be transferred to every kit. It is necessary to check the IP, temperature, cable entries and mounting position.

Integration into automation systems

The electric ball valve can be connected to a control cabinet, controller or dispatching. The automation executes commands according to a schedule or sensor signal and transmits information about the valve position.
Before integration, the following is agreed upon:

voltage;

signal type;

contacts;

emergency situation;

turn time.

Connection, configuration and checking of the locks are performed by a qualified specialist according to the manufacturer's diagram.
Position signals are used to indicate and lock adjacent equipment. The logic is tested in normal mode and during power loss.
