Due to the physicochemical properties of the material, such components ensure tightness and stable operation in conditions of aggressive environments, high pressure and critical temperatures (from – 30 °C to +600 °C).

    Key operational features

Stainless steel shut-off and control valves are indispensable in the oil refining, chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries due to the following factors:

    • Steel grade: The choice of a specific steel grade is based on hygiene requirements, chemical inertness, and specific operating conditions.
    • Heat resistance: Maintains mechanical strength and geometric stability over a wide temperature range.
    • Reliability: High resistance to water hammer, erosive wear and cavitation.
    • Installation versatility: Possibility of integration into the system using coupling (threaded), welded, flanged or interflange connections.

Classification and operating principle of the main types of valves

The effectiveness of the system depends on the correct selection of the structural type of the device in accordance with its functional purpose:

Device type Mechanism of action Main purpose
Ball valves Turn the spherical shutter to 90° around its axis. Quick flow shut-off (On/Off).
Gate valves The movement of the wedge gate is perpendicular to the flow axis. Use on large diameter mains with low hydraulic resistance.
Valves Moving the spool along the flow axis using a rod. Precise flow regulation and high tightness.
Disc valves Rotation of the closing disc around an axis perpendicular or inclined to the direction of flow. Compact overlap in systems with high costs.

    Corrosion resistance and materials science

The service life of reinforcement (which in everyday conditions can be calculated in decades) directly depends on the alloying elements in the steel:

    1. AISI 304 (08X18H10): Classic "food" steel. Optimal for working with fresh water, in atmospheric conditions and with mildly aggressive environments.
    2. AISI 316 (10X17H13M2): Contains molybdenum, which provides exceptional resistance to chlorides, seawater and organic acids.

    Standardization and quality control

The production and testing of stainless steel fittings are regulated by strict international and national standards:

    • DSTU EN 12266-1 / ISO 5208: Determines test methods and tightness classes of valves.
    • API 598 / ASME B16.34: Used for quality control of imported products operating under high pressure.

During technical inspection, parameters such as nominal pressure (PN), conditional diameter (DN) and the suitability of the body material and seals (EPDM, PTFE, NBR, VITON) to the working environment.

    Selection recommendations

When designing or repairing a pipeline, consider not only the price, but also a combination of technical factors: the chemical composition of the working fluid, peak pressure values, and environmental conditions.
