The category includes bellows steel expansion joints Fig.R120-L30 and Fig.R120-L60 with internal insert, flange connection and nominal pressure PN16. The designation L30/L60 should be read according to the technical data sheet of the specific model: the permissible stroke, length and application conditions must be confirmed by the manufacturer.
If the project requires a flange compensator of a different DN or design, the manager will compare the drawings, parameters, and availability. There is a separate category on the site for the welding scheme, so the connection type can be selected even before the specification is formed.
How to choose a compensator by diameter and pressure
DN and PN are just the beginning of the selection. The operating and installation temperatures, medium, calculated axial displacement, number of cycles, flow rate and the layout of fixed and guide supports are also required. The following are also checked:
- DN, flange standard and construction length;
- operating pressure, temperature and environment;
- magnitude and direction of movement;
- number of heating and cooling cycles;
- supports, guides and permissible loads on equipment.
The bellows does not correct alignment errors or replace anchors. Without a controlled support scheme, pressure can displace the line or overload a thin-walled element.
Purpose: compensation for temperature changes and vibrations
The steel bellows compresses or expands along its axis as the pipe changes length due to temperature. The inner insert protects the corrugations from direct flow and turbulence. The design must operate within the designed stroke. Torsion, skewing, and forced "tightening" of the pipe are unacceptable.
For intensive vibration isolation of the pump, a special flange vibration compensator or a rubber vibration insert is often used, if its parameters match the system.
Bellows, nozzles and inner insert
The hermetic bellows is usually made of stainless steel, and the nozzles and flanges are made of steel compatible with the pipeline. The corrugations provide flexibility, the nozzles transfer the load, and the inner sleeve equalizes the flow. The materials and thickness determine the permissible pressure, temperature, and cycle life.
A rubber flange compensator has a different design and other advantages: elastomer insulates noise and vibration better, but compatibility with temperature and environment is determined by the rubber grade. That is why it is impossible to transfer the characteristics of a rubber product to a steel bellows.
Flange connection design
Flanges allow the assembly to be dismantled without cutting the pipe. For a leak-tight installation, compatible standards, parallel surfaces, suitable gaskets and controlled cross-tightening of bolts are required. The compensator is not used as a lever to align misaligned flanges.
Before starting, remove the transport elements only according to the instructions, check the flow direction and the specified installation length. After heating, check the actual movement and the absence of skew.
Areas of application of flange expansion joints
Bellows models are used in heat networks, heating systems, on steam and process pipelines, where it is necessary to accept temperature expansion. An anti-vibration flange compensator or rubber vibration insert is advisable near pumps and ventilation equipment, when the main task is to dampen vibrations.
Solutions are chosen based on the type of movement and calculation. The designer needs allowable moves, forces, and cycles, not similar category names.
