    A variety of solenoid valves in the UKSPAR catalogue

    Solenoid valve (aka solenoid valve) is used to control the movement of the working medium through the pipe. The design provides a plunger that rises or falls, opening or blocking the flow, respectively. The locking mechanism is moved by an electromagnet, which explains the name of the valve. An electric pulse creates a magnetic field that causes the plunger to move. Solenoid valves are installed on pipelines with a liquid or gaseous medium, and allow you to control the flow remotely.

    ✓ What is an electromagnetic valve

    Possible classification options look like this:

    • construction type;
    • principle of action;
    • body material;
    • working substances;
    • High-voltage;
    • type of connection;
    • type of sealing membrane.

    ✓ Design type of electromagnetic valves

    There are normally-closed (NO) and normally-open (NO) valves.

    1. Normally closed products are characterized by a closed closing element in the absence of voltage. When there is a voltage, the shutter rises.
    2. A normally open valve works the other way around. In the absence of voltage, the closing element opens the flow, when voltage appears, it closes.

    It is also worth mentioning bistable valves, in which the operating position of the shutter is switched.
    The principle of action

    Valves can be of direct and indirect action:

    • in direct action products, the shutter moves when voltage is applied;
    • in products of indirect action, the shutter moves under the influence of the energy of the working flow.

    High-voltage

    The 220V solenoid valve that is suitable for most highways is most often on sale. You can also find a 24V solenoid valve.
    Body material

    Most often, brass and cast iron are used for the production of valves.

    1. Brass products are light, malleable, practical and inexpensive. They are not designed for high temperature and pressure, so they are more often used in domestic pipelines, mains with cold water and steam.
    2. Cast iron fittings are heavy, very strong, not afraid of rust, mechanical action, hydraulic shocks. They are chosen for industrial and production pipeline systems.

    Working substances

    The field of application of valves is practically unlimited. Among the most popular options:

    • electromagnetic valve for water;
    • electromagnetic valve for air;
    • electromagnetic valve for oil products;
    • electromagnetic valve for non-aggressive environments;
    • solenoid valve for oil.

    The fittings are mounted on the pipeline through their own flanges or threads. The type of connection does not affect the technical characteristics.
    Type of sealing membrane

    • FKM is a universal option for any non-aggressive environments;
    • NBR — membrane for petroleum, petroleum products, oil, diesel;
    • EPDM is a membrane for alkalis, acids, mildly aggressive environments.
