How to choose a coarse threaded filter by diameter and medium
First, determine the flow rate, temperature and operating pressure, check the fluid composition and connection size. The thread must match the type and size of the pipe and adjacent fittings. The same diameter designation is not enough. The throughput and permissible pressure losses are also important.
For a domestic network, a coarse water filter is selected taking into account the simultaneous operation of consumption points. Too small a passage restricts the flow, especially when sediment has already accumulated on the grid. For a hot coolant, the temperature limits of the housing and the seal are checked separately.
Design and cleaning principle
The working medium passes through the mesh, and impurities larger than its holes remain inside. The main elements of the unit:
- corps;
- filter insert;
- removable plug.
In the Y-shaped design, the side chamber acts as a settling tank. Such a coarse filter requires periodic maintenance, even if there are no external signs of contamination.
Mesh and filtration degree
The size of the mesh determines which particles are retained. A finer mesh protects sensitive mechanisms better but clogs more quickly with a significant amount of dirt. It is selected according to the requirements of the equipment after the filter. Mechanical filtration does not remove dissolved salts and is not a substitute for water disinfection.
Settling tank and cleaning the filter from dirt
Before unscrewing the plug, the area is covered, the pressure is relieved and the liquid is allowed to cool. The screen is removed, washed and inspected: a deformed or damaged element is replaced. After assembly, the tightness is checked. The increase in pressure drop helps to determine the need for cleaning before the system performance drops noticeably.
Body materials: brass, stainless steel
Brass products are common in water supply and heating. Stainless steel is also used for environments that require appropriate corrosion resistance. The final choice depends on the chemical composition of the liquid and temperature. In the F320 model, the body and mesh are made of stainless steel. Compatibility with a specific process environment is checked according to the documentation.
The price of a coarse filter depends on the material, connection size and design. It is worth comparing products with the same operating parameters: a lower cost in itself does not indicate whether the unit will withstand the operating conditions.
Advantages of threaded (coupling) connection for small diameters
The mesh filter with coupling is convenient to install in compact piping where there is no space for flanges. Installation is performed without welding, using a sealing material compatible with the environment. The coupling and other connecting parts must correspond to the parameters of the entire section.
When tightening, hold the housing by the surfaces intended for the wrench. Excessive force can damage the thread or the connection. Leave a space nearby for removing the plug and pulling out the mesh: access for maintenance is provided even before the pipes are installed.
Areas of application of threaded mesh filters
Such units are used in water supply, heating and technological circuits. They are placed in front of regulators, heat exchangers and other fittings sensitive to mechanical impurities. The installation location is coordinated with the system diagram. The arrow on the body is directed along the flow, and the position of the chamber is selected according to the instructions, taking into account the working environment.
