    What is a latch?

    A gate valve is a shut-off valve used to block the flow of a working medium. There are different types of gates and their structure.

    What types of latches are there?

    There are types of valves according to the shape of the shutter - parallel, single- or double-disc, wedge. According to the movement of the spindle, there are sliding and non-sliding valves. According to the method of installation, flanged and threaded valves are distinguished.

    How to determine the diameter of the valve?

    The diameter is selected as the closest DN from the DSTU list to the actual internal diameter of the pipe.

    What is the difference between a valve and a gate valve?

    The difference is that the structure of the gate and the principle of operation are different. In a valve, the closing element moves parallel to the flow of the working medium.

    What is the difference between a shut-off valve and a gate valve?

    Gate valves and valves come in different heights. Also, shut-off valves allow you to regulate flow, not just shut it off.

    What materials are used to make latches?

    The technical specifications of the valves include the use of ductile iron for the body with an epoxy coating. Ductile iron with an EPDM or NBR coating is used for the wedge.

    How does a gate valve work and what are its advantages over other shut-off valves?

    Through the handwheel, the force is transmitted to the rod, which raises or lowers the wedge. This creates a 100 % hermetic flow shut-off. The valve table will help you choose the optimal version of such fittings.

    UKSPAR rubber wedge gate valve: a classic solution for water supply and technical networks

    A rubber-coated wedge gate valve is a reliable shut-off device that provides complete flow shut-off in pipeline systems. The UKSPAR brand offers a series of cast-iron gates with a rubber-coated wedge, which combine tightness, durability, and adaptability to Ukrainian operating conditions.
    This type of fittings is widely used in water supply, utility, heating and utility networks - both in new facilities and during the modernization of existing ones.

    What is a rubber wedge valve used for?

    The rubberized wedge gate valve is used to completely block the flow of the working medium in the pipeline. Opening or closing occurs by moving the wedge along the flow axis, which guarantees minimal resistance in the open state and reliable sealing in the closed state.
    Main areas of application:

    • centralized and local water supply;
    • pumping stations, water metering units;
    • municipal heating networks;
    • industrial systems with temperatures up to +100 °C;
    • pipelines with technical or purified water;
    • construction and municipal engineering networks.

    Products with a rubberized UKSPAR wedge are a modern analogue of the popular 30ch39r valve model, but with improved tightness, wear resistance and ease of maintenance.
    Key benefits:

    • Complete flow blockage without leakage - class "A" tightness.
    • There is no resistance in the open position.
    • The rubber coating of the wedge (EPDM) is non-abrasive and elastic during temperature changes.
    • GGG50 ductile iron body - high strength with relatively low weight.
    • Anti-corrosion epoxy coating up to 250–350 microns thick - protects both outside and inside.
    • Life span of more than 50,000 cycles — withstands long-term operation without replacement.

    The principle of operation of a rubber-coated wedge valve

    The design involves moving the wedge along a guide in a vertical plane. In the closed position, it is tightly pressed against the body, creating a hermetic flow shut-off.
    How it works:

    1. The rotation of the handwheel or gearbox transmits force to the rod.
    2. The rod raises or lowers the wedge.
    3. Due to this, the flow is opened or closed.

    Thanks to its successful design, the valve in the open state ensures a long service life of the seals and low operating costs.

    Materials used to make UKSPAR rubber wedge valves

    The Fig. Z101 valve is designed to meet the requirements for strength, tightness and durability. High-quality malleable iron, high-quality vulcanization of the wedge with EPDM or NBR rubber and proven sealing materials are used in the production:

    • The body is made of EN-GJS500-7 ductile iron, resistant to mechanical stress and corrosion.
    • The wedge is malleable iron with a vulcanized coating of EPDM or NBR rubber, which provides a reliable seal.
    • The retaining ring and thrust washer are brass, which ensures smooth movement of the wedge.
    • The stem is made of stainless steel EN 1.4021, which guarantees durability and wear resistance.
    • The stem is sealed with NBR rubber rings, designed for use in water and air systems.
    • The stem nut is CW617N brass, anti-corrosion, with a low friction coefficient.
    • Fasteners are stainless steel bolts.
    • The coating is a two-layer epoxy (thickness up to 350 microns), applied by spraying, complies with the BS 6920 standard.

    These materials ensure high reliability of UKSPAR valves even in conditions of high humidity, aggressive soil or pressure drops.

    Performance characteristics of UKSPAR valves

    The UKSPAR water supply valve complies with DIN/EN standards and is adapted to the real operating conditions of engineering networks:

    • Tightness class: “A” (complete overlap without leakage).
    • Working pressure: PN10 and PN16 (depending on model).
    • Maximum temperature – up to +100 °C (EPDM).
    • Intended medium – drinking water, process water, air (without lubrication).
    • The number of opening/closing cycles is over 50,000.
    • Temperature resistance and seal selection.

    EPDM (up to +100 °C) - ideal for cold and hot water, domestic and municipal water supply. Resistant to salts, chlorine, weak acids.
    For aggressive environments (acids, petroleum products, steam), other types of fittings are used - specified separately.

    UKSPAR valve connection types

    Rubber-coated wedge valves have a flange connection according to international DIN and EN standards. This allows for quick integration of the valve into most standard pipelines without additional adapters.
    Connection characteristics:

    • Connection type: flanged (two-sided).
    • Flange holes: compliance with PN10, PN16.
    • Installation length: according to EN 558, series 3 (short body type F4).
    • Design type: straight passage, full diameter.
    • Control: manual (handwheel), possibility of connecting a gearbox or electric drive.

    Thanks to the standardized flange connection, installation takes a minimum of time and does not require welding or special tools.

    Available diameters and model range of UKSPAR valves

    UKSPAR rubber wedge latches are presented in a wide range of sizes - from DN40 to DN1200. This makes it possible to select fittings for both local wiring and large utility and industrial networks.
    The range of models includes:

    • DN40–DN300 — compact models for residential and administrative facilities. Installation in metering units, on inlets, in boiler rooms.
    • DN350–DN600 is the average range for urban networks, highways, and pumping stations.
    • DN700–DN1200 — large-sized valves are used in main pipelines, at water utility facilities and in industry.
