    How to choose a flanged valve by diameter and pressure

    The selection of valves begins with an analysis of the network parameters. The main criteria are the nominal flow and operating pressure.

    • The diameter must exactly match the pipe cross-section to avoid flow restriction and pressure loss.
    • The pressure in the system cannot exceed the product's nominal values.
    • For standard networks, a pressure of 10 or 16 bar is usually sufficient.
    • For industrial mains and powerful pumping stations – 25 bar and above.

    It is important to consider the temperature of the medium, as the maximum allowable pressure decreases when heated.

    Design and operating principle

    The basis of the product is a compact housing that is clamped between two flanges of the pipeline. Inside is a moving element and a spring. When the pump creates pressure, the flow deflects the shut-off element and flows freely. As soon as the pump is turned off or the inlet pressure drops, the mechanism reacts instantly.
    Due to the direct-action principle, the mechanism does not require external power sources, electric current or compressed air connection. The control of the closing element is carried out by the energy of the flow of liquid or gas moving through the pipes.

    Rotary disc and closing mechanism

    In rotary models, the disc is fixed on an axis and rotates under the pressure of the flow, and the reverse movement of the medium presses the disc against the seat and blocks the passage.
    In double-leaf valves, the role of the closing element is performed by two semicircular leaves on a common axis, which close under the action of reverse flow.
    Spring-loaded models accelerate closing by using a spring to press the disc against the seat before the reverse flow can gain strength. This is important in vertical pipelines and in the event of water hammer.

    Manufacturing materials

    Fastening is done with the same bolts or studs that tighten the pipeline flanges, without additional connecting elements. This also makes the cost lower compared to the flange model.
